Hide Your Money Away Whilst Travelling – But where and how is this done?

Here are some ways to hide your money away whilst travelling so you know it’s ready to use as and when you need it.

Money Belts

Although stuffing your money deep down into your pockets and buttoning or zipping them may be one way to do it, it has to be said that money belts have their place and are a much tried and tested means of hiding your money and other small valuables whilst you travel.

Money belts can be worn on the body or used to stash your cash in a locked backpack when left behind in your accommodation.  Secret money pockets can be used to keep your money safe and the good thing about these pockets are they small so can be made use of almost anywhere as far as your clothing is concerned.  You could use the inside of your pants, your socks and the girls who are handy with a needle and cotton can make a space ideal to store cash or a credit card in the lining or straps of their bras.

For an example of this see the Tatonka Money Belt

When on Your Travels Whichever way you choose to hide your money there are some things you need to remember about money when you are away from home.  Carry only limited amounts of cash – using a card to debit when you need more money is far better.  To do this you need to know about debit cards and how to get the best from them.  Make sure you leave an additional card with someone at home who can send it to you quickly should you need a duplicate for any reason whilst travelling.

It’s also a good idea to leave some paying in slips with a family member back home.  If extra money is needed the nominated person will be able to place money in your account when funds are running low.  It’s important to keep in touch, so make sure you have an international snail mail address where you can receive correspondence.  Of course, for more pressing communications or simply just to touch base and say hello in person, it´s worth learning how to make overseas calls from foreign countries while you are away from home.
